Words of Comfort for the family

Andrew J. Geerts, age 86, of New Hampton, died on Friday, December 7, 2007 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph’s Center in New Hampton.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at New Hampton.

Visitation will be 3:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 with a rosary at 4:00 pm and a Scriptural Wake Service at 6:00 pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Andrew Geerts was born June 1, 1921 to Theodore and Margaret (Brehm) Geerts in Regent, North Dakota. In 1923 he moved with his family to the Alta Vista area where he lived until his marriage to Monica Tilkes on April 23, 1945 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington.  They farmed west of Alta Vista for a few years then moved east of Lourdes and farmed there for more than 40 years.  Andrew was active with the Boy Scouts as a scout leader and he was grave digger for Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery and on the cemetery board for 30 years.

Andrew enjoyed fishing, playing cards and woodworking and he especially enjoyed being with his family and friends.  He was a member of Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph’s center.

Andrew is survived by his wife of 62 years, Monica of New Hampton; brothers Paul Geerts of Alta Vista, Louis Geerts of New Hampton and Daniel Geerts and wife Coletta of New Hampton; sisters Ruth Kruth of Evansdale, IA, Mabel Geerts of Elma and Monica Marvin and husband Virgil of Alta Vista; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Elmer and an infant brother.
