Georgine L. Roete, age 80, of New Hampton, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Monday, December 10, 2007 at Holy Family Parish – St. Mary’s Center in New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating mass.  Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery at Spillville, Iowa with grandsons Lee Schutte, Lonny Schutte, Dan Venem, John Venem, Tony Drewelow, Jacob Schutte and Brian Laures serving as casket bearers.  Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 3:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, December 9, 2007 with a rosary at 4:00 pm immediately followed by a Scriptural Wake Service at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton.

Georgine Lucille (Tupy) Roete was born on December 3, 1927 to Joseph and Mary (Novak) Tupy in Decorah, Iowa.  She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Spillville, Mt. Mercy in Cedar Rapids and Wahlert in Dubuque.  Georgine was united in marriage to August (Augie) Roete on September 18, 1945 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.  The couple farmed near Spillville until 1960 when they moved into town.  In 1965, they moved to New Hampton where Georgine has lived ever since.  She worked at Bucheit Produce in Calmar and she also babysat for New Hampton residents.  For the last three years she was a resident of the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center.

Georgine liked to bake pies and kolaches, dancing, traveling, playing marbles and bingo, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Center and Catholic Daughters of America.

Georgine is survived by three daughters Bertha (Janie) Schutte and husband Harold of Elk Run Heights, IA, Anita (Katie) Geerts and husband Mike of New Hampton, and Mary Ann Drewelow and husband Bernie of New Hampton;  11 grandchildren Lori Mulling, Lee Schutte, Lonny Schutte, Michael Geerts Jr, Missy Schneider, Teresa Laures, Dan Venem, John Venem, Tia Drewelow, Tony Drewelow, Tanya Drewelow; brother-in-law Bill Nickerson of Oelwein, IA; sisters-in-law Alice Roete of Oelwein, IA, Virginia Roete of Oelwein, IA and Mary Jane Ballard of Erie, IL; 17 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.  She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Tupy, husband Augie who died on April 23, 2003, two daughters Sally and Debra and great grandson Austin.
