Words of Comfort for the family

 

Vernon P. O誰eil, age 81, of Santa Clara, California, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at his home.

A celebration of life service will be 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at St. Justin Catholic Church, Santa Clara, CA.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Friday, November 30, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma with Father Ray Atwood celebrating the mass. Burial will be in St. Patrick痴 Cemetery at St. Cecilia with military honors by Elma American Legion John Frahm Post #597.

Vernon Patrick O誰eil was born on March 18, 1926 to Harry and Kathryn (Buckley) O誰eil on the family farm near St. Cecilia. Vern graduated from Elma High School in 1943.  He served with the US Navy in the early 50痴 on the ship USS Pine Island and also in Alameda, California.  He competed as a middle weight boxer while serving in the Navy.  After his discharge from the Navy he attended San Jose Junior College.  Vern was united in marriage to Hazel Besecker in 1964 in California.  Vern worked as a drywall taper and invested in real estate for most of his working years. 

Vern loved to golf, hunt, play poker with friends and drive his convertible and El Camino and support the New York Yankees.  Vern had a special interest in following the activities of his nieces and nephews, which brought him much happiness.

Vern is survived by his wife Hazel of Santa Clara, CA; three sisters Rita Kelly of Waterloo, Ruby Gonzales of Banning, CA., and Pat Worple and husband Fred of Waterloo; brother-in-law Larry O誰eill of San Jose, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Dale O誰eil; one sister Jean O誰eill and two brothers-in-law Roland Kelly and Frank Gonzales.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Elma American Legion John Frahm Post #597.
